Jackson Rice is eager to snag another podium finish at this weekend’s round 2 of the Trico Trans Am Series in Tasmania. The #7 Dream Racing Australia entry had an impressive start to the season, a weekend that the youngster is hoping to emulate this weekend.
“We’re coming off a successful weekend at Sandown,” said Rice.
“Hopefully we can carry on the momentum from our podium finish and continue banking those points. We’re currently sixth in the Championship, so hopefully we can continue to build on that and have a great weekend in Tassie!”
Whilst it’s been a couple of years since Rice last raced at the Symmons Plains circuit, there’s a reason this track holds special meaning.
“I really love Symmons Plains. Two years ago was the last time that I raced there and that was our very first race in a Trans Am, where we made our debut. So, I’ve got really fond memories of this circuit,” admitted Rice.
“The track really suits my driving style, it’s very short and sharp. A lot of people describe it as a little bit like a street circuit, because of how narrow it is. There are only six corners. The hair pin, which is historically the slowest corner in the country, is always a lot of fun. We do 245-250km/hr down to 45-50km/h, so we drop down significantly in speed as we take on the hair pin.
“I think the way we run our cars suit this style of circuit, so I’m really excited. We had a great testing day too, so I’m going in feeling really confident.”
This weekend’s race schedule will see two practice sessions on Friday 15th March, followed by qualifying and two races on both Saturday and Sunday.
“We have four 25-lap races this weekend, so we’ll be looking to make sure we manage the tyres well and of course qualifying is always key,” said Rice.
“Hopefully we can put on a good show this weekend. A big thank you to the crew and all of my sponsors and supporters for your on-going support. I really appreciate everything that you do for us.”
