The Trico Trans Am Series is back in action this weekend and Jackson Rice has his eyes fixed on another podium. After a stellar performance in Adelaide, Rice hopes to emulate his third-place trophy.

This weekend will host a field of 21 drivers, one of the largest entry lists of the year. The spread of talent will include Supercar drivers and some of Australia’s most exciting emerging drivers.

Jackson Rice gives an insight into the weekend:

“I’m super excited to be getting back into the car and giving it another red-hot crack!” said Rice.

“We’ve done a little bit of testing up at Queensland Raceway, which has been great preparation for us. It’s also nice to be heading into some warmer weather and away from the Melbourne cold – which is where I’ve been spending a lot of time, assisting with the preparation of the cars.

“This track is known as the ‘paperclip’, with six corners and essentially four drag strips – (known as the driver’s description) and as much as there’s not a lot of technicalities around the corners of this track, that means that there’s a lot of pressure to get those smaller things right and that’s where the technical stuff comes in.

“You’ve got to be able to drive the cars traditionally, you’ve got to get the car stopped, rotated, get it really neutral at the apex and try and maximize the drive off.

“Whilst it’s not a super high degradation track, we still need to be mindful of tyre life and ensure we look after the tyres and be really smart.

“It’d be nice to continue with that momentum from where we were at The Bend. It was really cool that we were able to contend for a podium and compete with the top three. It’s exciting for our team and we’ve proven that we can be up there with the fast guys.

“I’ve been working really hard with Cambo (my engineer) and Glenn Seton and we’re really trying to squeeze the last tenths out of these cars and hopefully we can continue with what we’ve been doing and lock in some valuable Championship points.

“Our aim is to get as many points as possible and lock back into the top 5 in the Championship.

“A big thank you to everybody for all the support and to everyone behind the scenes. Hopefully we can make you all proud this weekend! Looking forward to getting there and giving it a good go!”

This weekend’s track schedule is set to be a busy one, with two 20-minute practice sessions before qualifying at 4:30pm.

Saturday and Sunday will feature two races on each day, with all four races to be shown live and free on 7plus.
