Jackson Rice has completed his first laps in the Dunlop Super 2 Series at the Repco Bathurst 1000 on the weekend.

The youngster was given the opportunity to steer the #37 ZB Holden Commodore, spearheaded by Matt Chahda Motorsport in what would be the first time Rice had driven a Supercar.

Rice used Thursday’s practice sessions to familiarise himself with the car.

“It was quite daunting to be honest,” said Rice.

“Everything happened so quickly in terms of getting the deal done, so there was little time to prepare really.

“I made a few small mistakes but felt like we came out of the practice sessions with a bit more insight as to how the car works.

“I had the engineer coaching me the whole time over the radio, and so my main goal was to just learn as much as possible.”

Friday was straight into qualifying, where Rice managed to place 18th ahead of the race.

“I managed to have an ok qualifying lap and put the car off the back row, which was good – very low pressure,” said Rice.

“I hadn’t actually done a standing start in one of those cars before, until the first race. I got through race 1 relatively ok though, made a couple of little mistakes – but all in all, it was good to have put the first race behind me and come through relatively unscathed.”

Saturday was the final day of action for the Dunlop Super2 Series and Rice was able to make some progress, finishing 16th in race 2.

“The second qualifying session on Saturday was a lot better. I was able to take so much from the previous day and applied it qualifying and then into the race,” said Rice.

“We were actually in a really good position to contest for P11 in qualifying, but I just missed the braking marker and ended up running off through the sand, which was a real shame as we would have been mid-pack for the race.

“I was feeling confident heading into the final race, I started off the second-back row and got through my second standing start.

“By the end of the race, we were matching times with the guys in front of us and we came back with a straight car and finished up P16, which I was pretty happy with!

“It was a huge weekend for me, such a big learning curve. I enjoyed every moment of it and can’t thank all of my sponsors enough for the support.

“Hopefully this is the start of bigger things to come! Thank you all again.”

Rice will return back into his Trans Am Mustang for the Shannons SpeedSeries at the Supercheap Bathurst Auto International, November 8-10.
